In development

I am currently collaborating with Tom Nerling on the development of a treatment for a narrative feature film about the fear of the future. We spent two weeks in Berlin in September 2010 exploring the reality (past and future) of the Neue Bundesländer (the former East Germany). Of particular interest were the IBA projects in Sachsen-Anhalt with their aim to re-populate de-industrialised regions and create liveable environments. The IBA slogan is:

  LESS IS FUTURE

In our story we follow an idealistic architect who wants to contribute something worthwhile, something meaningful to his homeland. Fear of an unknown future made his father emigrate from the collapsed East German state shortly after 1989. The son returned but now starts to question the value of his work. How can we have faith in the future when we keep re-building on the same old foundations? Sometimes it may be necessary to tear everything down before we can make a fresh start...

Tom visited me in the Austrian Alps to discuss the treatment. We scripted several key scenes. Another objective was to reduce the amount of dialogue and express our themes more visually/in abstract form.
